🟢Blocking Wave Attacks with Vortex Shield

The Vortex Shield is capable of stopping arc wave, firewall, and flame core.

Wave Entities

Wave entities are basically what arc wave, firewall, and flame core are: wave-like projectiles. All of them have the same movement properties: they fall down heights instantly and can be blocked by a vortex/thermal shield. Though, due to the thermal shield's smaller hitbox, it's a lot harder compared to the vortex shield.

Wave Entities have a set life timer before they despawn; to block one, you have to, so to speak, catch it. Or just get lucky and have the enemy deploy it inside your shield and despawn it.

Think of it like you're trying to catch a missile with your bare hands; you grab onto it, and it's trying to get past you. You struggle for a few seconds until, eventually, its fuel runs out and it becomes harmless. The same principle goes for wave entities.

  • Looking slightly down or crouching will make catching a wave much easier.

  • Try to memorize the wave's max distance to make calculating the time to hold it easier.

  • Make sure to not move too much, move your camera too much, get knocked back, or to dash while holding the wave in the shield.

Stopping Arc Wave

The most common situation you'll find yourself in: Ronin throws an arc wave at you; you open your vortex and catch it. Depending on the distance from Ronin's throw position, the arc wave has a limited life timer of 3 sec. The farther away it was thrown for the longer you have to wait, if it got thrown right beside you, you'll have to wait nearly 3 sec before closing your Vortex and like less than a sec at far range. You basically should learn arc wave's max distance so you can guess roughly when it'd reach the end of its travel distance and despawn.

Not opening the vortex in time will cause the arc wave to just go through you and damage you. Closing too early will cause it to reappear, damage you, and go through you.

Stopping Firewall

Very similar to an arc wave, but firewall has a lot faster wave, so you'll have to catch and hold it for a lot shorter than an arc wave. Catching Firewall will not make its already placed fire disappear. The placed fire will last a lot longer than the firewall in your shield. Catching the firewall wave will stop the fire from spreading farther.

Stopping Flame Core

Flame Core is very tricky and difficult; you can't do it upfront against flame core (unless Scorch looks down to tighten the spread of flame core). Flame core spawns 3 waves at the same time, they're so spread that out that Ion will get hit if she tries to block. The best way to block the flame core alone is to block it from a side and only 1 out of 3 segments (obstacles can break segments of the flame core).

Or to have a Scorch/Ion teammate make a side-by-side shield wall to stop it completely upfront, but if either of you unblocks, the core will go through (though it's possible for only one Titan to get hit).
